When asked about a defining moment in his life, Greg Parkhill reflected upon his career and dedicated that title to his first job as a residential painter in the Summer of 2004. He was 14 years old at the time, and his Uncle had hired him as an extra hand to accelerate projects. It was from this first relevant job that Greg learned the ins and outs of residential painting and gained insight into what it took to run a home service business. He carried these lessons into his career, and Greg is now the proud owner and founder of a multi-million-dollar home service renovation company as well as 7 Figure Service Pro, a business development company geared toward the home service sector.
After his summer job for his Uncle ended, Greg gained essential interpersonal skills by serving in the restaurant industry. He eventually made it back to the home service field by listing his services daily on Craigslist and offering his services out of his parent’s garage. Greg started out by advertising at just $65 per room knowing it would generate traffic for an upsell; eventually, he branched out to generating leads through word of mouth and local bulletins. His business grew to where he was charging $250-$350 per room and, at that point, he was competing with local businesses that had been established for years. Impressively, Greg found a way to make the recession around 2008 work to his advantage.
By targeting investors who were buying up cheap homes and maintaining competitive pricing, his company excelled beyond his initial expectations. By 21 years old, he was making six figures through his painting business! It wasn’t always smooth sailing for Greg and his business, though. In 2012, his life changed forever when he accidentally hit and killed a jaywalker in his company car as he made his way through an intersection. Despite Greg’s clear innocence in the matter, the State alleged that it was his fault due to speeding. Although it was a case of a jaywalker being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and where they shouldn’t have been, Greg was sucked into a grueling, 5-year battle to clear his name and avoid prison time.
Greg spent countless hours making court appearances, appealing his case, and well over $200,000 in attorney’s fees; however, he was still sentenced to spend five years in prison with a minimum stipulation of 85% having to be served. By the time he was convicted, Greg’s home service business had grown in the background of this nightmare to host multiple employees and exceed $600,000 in revenue each year. His dream of growing and maintaining an impactful home service business came crashing down as the thought of managing a company from behind bars was unimaginable. During his time in prison, Greg managed to keep his company barely alive. From the outside, friends and family helped his company pull through while he was incarcerated and unable to contribute to his business’s wellbeing. Looking forward to the future when he would one day be released, Greg read 32 books about digital marketing, brand development, human pyscological behavior and mental strength to pass the time.
In November 2019, Greg rightfully received notice that his case was overturned. The New Jersey Appellate Division deemed the judge’s methods improper plain error, and he was released after serving 18 long months in prison. Although he was relieved to be vindicated, Greg couldn’t help but feel a surging anger toward the judge that took away his time from his family, friends, and business. The time he had spent in court defending himself and then behind bars for 1 ½ years had been a significant setback in his career. Resiliently , Greg hit the ground running and quickly applied his newly learned knowledge in scaling his business to exceed $1 million in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic was a roadblock for the company but, like he had done before, Greg overcame this tribulation. Now, his painting company is making well over $2 million year-over-year.
